EDLD 5363 Week 5 Reflection

The PSA is now compmlete and it was such a labor of love. I enjoyed so much working with other members of my cohort. You know you always try to do your best work on an assignment, but when someone else's grade relies on your work you really want it to be great. So I really tried to be there for my group. My position in the group was talent, which really just means voiceover. It makes me sound extra special though to hear that I was the talent of the video! I learned about a few of the members of my cohort and that was really great because sometimes in an online environment it is really easy to go along in the course and never get to know anyone that you are in the class with. So we worked really hard and then we would visit for a little while (or a long time, whatever). So, not only did I learn a great deal about video editing I also learned about my fellow classmates.

EDLD 5363 Week 2

During week 2 of the Multimedia Video Technology course we had the task of editing a video clip and checking out several video editing software options. I ended choosing Video Spin as the software to create a podcast about. I did not love Video Spin, but it was the lesser of the evils that I tried. It was very frustrating when I was in the middle of working and the program would freeze up. I know that it tested my patience more than a few times. Creating the podcast this week was exciting because I had never done that before. It also let me know that I would be capable of doing the voice over section of the PSA for the group work. So to summarize this weeks assignment was not my favorite, but I learned skills that I did not have before.

Week 1 Reflection

So this is my first week in the Multimedia Video Technology course for Lamar University and I loved the first assignment. We were asked to create a digital story, and I used Photo Story 3 from Windows. I used pictures from my Florida vacation that I took with my husband and two sons. I think the assignment was so exciting for me because it allowed me to put together my memories from a vacation that I absolutely loved. So it was a true walk down memory lane for me and now I have another keepsake from my Florida trip. I was not familiar with the Photo Story software before this assignment, but it was easy to maneuver and I found the experience enjoyable. Multimedia Video Technology

For the PSA assignment in the mutlimedia class, I was added to a group that already included Jaron Ricks, Sharron Bills and Sarah Arnold. Then during a web conference we met Vicki Fruge and she was also added to our group. When Jaron added me he mentioned that they used Skype to communicate, so I installed the program on my laptop and immediately started Skyping to keep up with group progress. Sharron Bills unofficially served as group leader and organized our group, and we began by just brain storming ideas. I had just read an article about using technology to increase student engagement and recommended the PSA topic of using technology to decrease student dropout rates. The group thought the idea was good, so we automatically started running with it. Several members emailed web articles that they found that elaborated on our topic.

Then we had a conversation about what position in the group we wanted and I volunteered for voice over duties. I had only used audacity once before when we worked on our video editing assignment, but I felt like that would be a great place to begin working. Once Sarah delivered a rough draft script I did a run through of the voice over and emailed it to Sharron to practice editing. We all continued to communicate almost nightly through Skype, not all of it was work related though, we also got to know each other at a personal level which was really great. We are all working for a common goal, but coming at it with different back grounds. At first I was nervous about working with a group of people that I did not know or even live in the same time zone (Jaron), but I truly enjoyed the experience and the friendships that I developed.
